The 8va means to play 1 octave higher than it is written. Otherwise the notes below would be up high in the ledger lines. Learn more about 8va and 8vb in lesson 12

:25 - :41

Start by putting your first finger on D and your 3rd or 4th finger on F. Pick the string so we hear F and then pull off so we hear the D (you will not pick the D).

:42 - :45

Now play an A also with your first finger. You can either roll it from the D it just played or you can lay it across both strings from the start and not move it at all.

:46 - 1:00

Then back to the D. Picking options are discussed below.

1:01 - 1:21

Using your fingers instead of a pick like Mark Knofler does.

1:22 - 1:46

Alternate picking:

1:47 - 2:15

Natural Picking (also known as Economy picking)

Once you have decided on the picking pattern you like best play the Dm arpeggio 4 times and then staying in the same position play Bb.

Dm

8va throughout

You might recognize the shapes to the right (depending on how far through the lessons you are). This arpeggio was explored using G in lesson 10
