Please be aware of how the seven alphabet letters used in music are placed on the staff.

Ex.1 Open E

Using our high open E string (Eddie), try playing along with the midi files using half notes and whole notes. The time signature is C (common time) so our whole note will be worth 4 beats or counts and the half note will be worth 2.
