Open C Chord
For this lesson we will use the open C chord. Here is the fingering for the C chord. Usually we would allow the high E string to ring however for the purpose of this Travis picking pattern, we will not need the high E string.
Travis Picking using Open C Chord
So the above pattern is going strings: 5 3 4 2 and p i p m
The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel uses a very similar and equally popular pattern that would go strings: 5 2 4 3 and follow the same p i p m
Landslide Intro and Verse
The intro and verse of the Fleetwood Mac song called Landslide uses the Travis picking we have learned above. Basically we will play the pattern moving through 3 chords and one slight change.
